Telegram’s Big Blockchain Move: Mini App Store and Web3 Browser Launch
Telegram is making waves in the blockchain space with the upcoming launch of its mini app store and a web3-enabled in-app browser, set to debut by the end of July 2024. This bold step aligns with Telegram’s expanding role in the crypto world, driven by its booming blockchain gaming ecosystem.
The platform has recently become a hotspot for innovative crypto games like Hamster Kombat, which amassed an astonishing 239 million users in just 81 days. This surge underscores Telegram’s pivotal role in blockchain adoption, with Pavel Durov, Telegram’s founder and CEO, predicting 2024 as a landmark year for blockchain awareness.
In response to the rapid growth and increased interest in blockchain activities, Telegram is also introducing enhanced security features. New measures will include displaying registration months and principal countries for public accounts and enabling third-party verification via mini apps. This initiative aims to combat scams and improve transparency within the platform.
The Open Network (TON) blockchain, closely linked to Telegram, has experienced significant growth, with the total value locked (TVL) surpassing $760 million. This impressive increase reflects the growing influence of Telegram’s blockchain ecosystem, supported by popular games and a rising Toncoin value.
The introduction of the mini app store will facilitate the deployment of blockchain applications directly within Telegram, providing users with seamless access across devices. Additionally, a $50 million gaming accelerator program, spearheaded by Notcoin and Helika Gaming, highlights the growing investment in blockchain gaming.
Telegram, with its 900 million monthly active users, is now among the top 10 most downloaded apps globally. As it continues to innovate, it remains at the forefront of the blockchain revolution, setting the stage for a transformative year ahead.
